10-year $30bn Iran-Turkmenistan barter deal on the cards, says Tehran

Iran-Turkmenistan barter deal: Iran is reported to be planning to offer Turkmenistan a 10-year, $30bn barter deal under the terms of which it would swap equipment and technical services in return for natural gas. The possibility of the deal was announced at a conference in Tehran on Sunday by Mohammad-Taqi Amanpour, an advisor to the country’s Oil Minister. According to Amanpour, major preparations are already under way, with more than 70 Iranian companies having submitted tenders in a bid to secure participation.
Turkmenistan is currently exporting about 25m m³ of natural gas to Iran on a daily basis, although supplies have been suspended several times in recent years over pricing disputes.
