IMF approves new aid package for Ukraine: IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde today announced that the board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) had signed off on a $17.5bn four-year aid program for Ukraine, its second attempt in less than a year to pull the troubled country’s economy back from the brink of bankruptcy. She did not provide any details on how large the initial payment would be or the timetable for the release of further funds. Confirmation of the loan is expected to unlock further credits from other donors, with the the total package of assistance for the country anticipated to reach $40bn.
