Canada to lift sanctions of sale of Bombardier aircraft to Iran

The Canadian government  has announced that is planning to lift the sanctions prohibiting Bombardier  from selling its planes to Iran. “If Airbus is able to do it, why  can’t Bombardier?” Canada’s Foreign Minister Stephane Dion argued at a press conference.
Last weekend, Iran announced plans to buy more than 160 European planes, mainly from Airbus, and Dion said the Conservative opposition’s reluctance to lift  Canadian sanctions had played into the French company’s hands. The US, the EU and many  other major nations have already lifted sanctions, with Ottawa still lagging behind. “Canada will lift its sanctions but what Canada will maintain is our suspicion of a regime … that must not return to (trying to obtain) nuclear weapons,” Dion said.
