Sanya Atlantis: China’s Fosun Group conglomerate is planning to invest almost $17bn in a massive marine tourist project in Sanya in the southern province of Hainan , according to a report posted on sina.com.cn yesterday. The 530,000m² Sanya Atlantis will feature an aquarium populated with 60,000 fish and other marine life and 16 themed restaurant. The project is expected to open next year and to have an annual business turnover of around $600m.
In recent years, Fosun has bought the Lloyds of London building and Milan’s historic Palazzo Broggi and has also invested in British tour operator Thomas Cook Group, France’s Club Med, and Canada’s Cirque du Soleil.
