Russian ecommerce market up 31% with $6bn spent in overseas online stores

The Russian ecommerce market was worth RUB713bn last year, 31% up on 2013, according to the Association of Internet commerce companies (Akita). There are now around 73 million internet users across Russia, an increase of 4.3 million, 40 million of whom make online purchase. 20% use their mobile phones to  execute their transactions. Akita estimates that cross-border trade accounted for 30% of all those transactions, implying that Russians spent $6bn on 80 million transaction in overseas online stores compared to $3.5bn on 37 million purchases in the previous year.
