German companies to invest $2.8bn in Uzbekistan: The German-Uzbek Business Council got off to a flying start last week with its German founder members signing off on an investment package worth $2.8bn destined for Uzbekistan’s chemical, machinery, electronic, textile, food production, and building material sectors. Among the 50 German companies that attended the Council’s inaugural meeting in Berlin on 25 February were representatives from MAN, Airbus, Claas, Knauf, Lemken, ThyssenKrupp, Commerzbank, and Deutsche Kabel.
