Shandong-Uzbekistan freight train service opens for business

Shandong-Uzbekistan freight train service  A new cargo rail service linking Binzhou City in China’s eastern Shandong Province and Uzbekistan began on Friday when the first train left Binzhou on a 7-day, 5,630-km journey that will take it through  Kazakhstan. Two further cargo lines will be launched linking Binzhou to Russia and Germany, according to China’s rail authorities.
Traditionally reliant on agriculture, Binzhou has been diversifying its economy in recent years and has succeeded in attracting investment from, among others, the Weiqiao textile company and the Binzhou Pride automotive plant. The local authorities have also been ploughing resources into a new economic development zone on the outskirts of the city, complete with a  man-made lake.
